"Wonderful Counselor"
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6

Isaiah 9:6 is one of the most beloved prophecies in Scripture concerning the birth of Christ. Isaiah wrote these words nearly 600 years before Jesus entered the world, pointing to Him as the ultimate Hope for all humanity.
In Isaiah’s day, Israel faced oppression, injustice, and uncertainty. Today, our world continues to experience the same: wars, famine, disease, poverty, corruption, and broken systems. Yet in the midst of global confusion and turmoil, God has not turned His eyes away. There is Hope—a hope higher than political structures, human abilities, and temporary solutions. With this hope comes the promise of a Kingdom—God’s Kingdom—that will outlast and outshine every earthly government.
Unlike human leadership, God’s Kingdom is perfect, just, and everlasting. When political answers seem impossible and the world grows weary of empty promises, Isaiah’s prophecy gives us comfort: God’s Kingdom is coming.
And the hope that comes through this Child—whose birth we celebrate at Christmas—changes the way we live, think, and trust God today.
No Confusion Because He Is the Wonderful Counsellor
One of the greatest blessings of God’s Kingdom is that it is free from confusion because Christ is our Wonderful Counsellor.
We live in a world full of complexity, noise, and uncertainty. Human leaders, no matter how capable, have limitations and fail. People promise change but often disappoint. But Jesus is unlike any earthly leader. As God in human form, He is the very source of wisdom and truth. He declared: "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)
No politician or human system can compare to His perfect counsel. And here is the beautiful promise: Jesus did not leave us to navigate life alone. He gave us the Holy Spirit—the Helper—our own Wonderful Counsellor. Jesus said: "The Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26)
Through the Holy Spirit:
-
We receive guidance in our decisions.
-
We are reminded of Jesus’ teachings and promises.
-
We gain discernment in times of confusion.
-
We experience God’s wisdom active in our minds and hearts.
Unlike human advisors, the Holy Spirit is never wrong, is always present, and never contradicts God's truth. When we yield to His leading, our lives align with the perfect wisdom of Christ.
Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, our Wonderful Counsellor,
We thank You for the unshakable hope we have in You.
As we serve today, fill our hearts with Your wisdom, Your peace, and Your presence.
Holy Spirit, guide our thoughts, our decisions, and our worship.
Remove confusion, quiet every distraction, and align our hearts with Your truth.
Let every note we play and every word we sing point people to You—
the Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
Lead us, teach us, and make us sensitive to Your voice.
We give this time of worship to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen."
