Leading From Where You Stand
“Follow my example,
as I follow the example of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 11:1

Leadership isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s holding a camera steady when no one notices. Sometimes it’s choosing excellence in rehearsal, faithfulness in prep, or humility when things don’t go as planned.
The world is desperate for good leadership—but even more, it’s desperate for godly leadership. Not just leaders on platforms, but leaders in hearts, attitudes, and obedience. That’s where you come in. Scripture reminds us that leadership isn’t optional for believers. Every Christian influences someone. Jesus didn’t only call pastors or prophets—He simply said, “Come, follow Me.” And in following Him, people became leaders. Paul later echoed this bold statement: “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1)
That’s real leadership—not perfection, but direction.
You Were Designed to Lead
From the beginning, God created humans to lead with care and responsibility. Leadership was never meant to be about control or spotlight—it was about stewardship.God leads as a loving Father. Jesus leads as a servant King. And we are called to lead like Christ—through love, obedience, and example. As part of the worship arts and media team, you are shaping how people encounter God. The way you serve, create, collaborate, and respond to pressure speaks louder than any title. Whether you’re running lyrics, playing an instrument, mixing sound, or designing visuals—you are leading people toward (or away from) God’s presence.
God’s Call Is Already on Your Life
A powerful truth from Scripture is this: “You are a chosen people…” (1 Peter 2:9)
God doesn’t wait for us to feel ready before He calls us. Many of the people God used felt unqualified, too small, too young, too busy, or too unsure. Moses doubted his speech. Gideon doubted his strength. Jeremiah doubted his age. Yet God still chose them. The call wasn’t about their ability—it was about their availability.
Your Response Matters
The real question isn’t “Am I called to lead?”
The question is “How will I respond?”
When we say yes to God—even with fear, questions, or limitations—He promises to meet us there. He supplies the skills, the wisdom, and the authority needed to fulfill His purpose. Obedience unlocks provision. Faithfulness releases growth. Surrender invites God’s power.
What Happens When We Say Yes
When we respond to God’s call:
-
He develops our gifts and sharpens our skills
-
He gives spiritual authority, not for control, but for impact
-
He uses our obedience to influence others toward Christ
Leadership in God’s kingdom starts with following—and following always leads to influence.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for calling me—not because I am perfect, but because You are purposeful. Help me to see my role, my gifts, and my service as leadership. Give me a heart that follows You closely, so others may be led toward You through my life. Teach me to lead with humility, faithfulness, and love. I say yes to Your call. Shape me into the leader You desire me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Reflection Questions:
-
Where has God already given me influence—at church, at home, or in my creative role?
-
What fears or excuses have I allowed to hold me back from stepping into leadership?
-
How does my attitude and preparation affect those I serve with and those who worship?
-
What would it look like for me to lead more intentionally by example this week?
-
How can I follow Christ more closely so others can follow Him through me?
