"Everlasting Father"
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor,
Mighty God, EVERLASTING FATHER, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6

When Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, he chose titles that revealed not only who Christ would be, but what Christ would bring to humanity. Among these titles, one stands out with profound depth: Everlasting Father—literally, the Father of Eternity. This title does not confuse Jesus with God the Father. Rather, it reveals Jesus as the origin, source, and ruler of eternity itself. He is not bound by time, shaped by history, or limited by creation. Time exists because He allows it to exist.
Christ Before Time
Before the first moment began, Christ already was. Before the universe expanded, before stars were spoken into place, before humanity drew its first breath—Christ existed in eternal fullness. Jesus did not step into eternity; eternity flows out of Him. Creation did not give Him purpose; He gave creation purpose. Scripture reminds us: “In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
Bethlehem was not His beginning. The manger was not His origin. It was simply the moment eternity stepped into time for our salvation.
Christ the Architect of Eternity
As the Father of Eternity, Jesus is the designer of all that will last forever. Heaven, the new creation, redeemed humanity, and eternal life itself all find their source in Him. Nothing eternal exists apart from Christ. Nothing lasting stands without His word. He created humanity with eternal souls—not for temporary meaning, but for everlasting communion with God. Even redemption was not an afterthought; it was part of His eternal plan before time began.
Christ the Lord of the Future
Jesus does not only rule the past and the present—He rules the future. Every age answers to Him. Every generation unfolds under His authority.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:13)
History is not drifting toward chaos. Eternity is not uncertain. The future is written by the One who holds eternity itself. What He promises will happen. What He builds cannot be destroyed. What He begins, He always completes.
Christ the Giver of Eternal Life
Only the One who possesses eternity can give it. Jesus does not merely promise a better future—He gives eternal life now to those who believe. Eternal life is not just unending existence; it is a restored relationship with God that begins today and continues forever.
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” (John 10:28)
When we come to Christ:
-
Death loses its power
-
Fear loses its grip
-
Our lives gain eternal meaning
He becomes our Father in eternity—guiding, guarding, and carrying us safely into everlasting life.
