Carrying god's Presence Together

A Call to Respect, Submission, and Honour in Worship Ministry

“Then the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.”
— Joshua 3:17 (NIV)

Worship is not just a sound—it is a posture. A posture of unity, humility, and reverence.

When we come together as a worship team, whether we're singers, musicians, sound engineers, or support crew, we are not merely performing—we are carrying the presence of God, just like the priests who bore the ark of the covenant across the Jordan River.

In Joshua 3, we see a powerful moment where four priests were chosen to carry the ark. The task was sacred, heavy, and required absolute coordination and unity. Not one of them could afford to break formation. Not one could complain about the weight, question the pace, or gossip about the others' posture. They had to honour God by honouring each other.

Imagine if just one of them refused to submit to the instructions. If one complained, or insisted on doing it their own way. The result? Chaos. The ark wouldn’t move. The people wouldn’t cross. The presence of God would not have gone before them.

As a worship team, we are modern-day carriers of God’s presence. Not in a wooden box, but through our lives, our voices, and our instruments. But more importantly, we carry His presence through the attitude of our hearts toward one another.

Paul gives us the blueprint:

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” — Romans 12:10 (NIV)

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure…” — Philippians 2:14–15 (NIV)

God is not just listening to our harmonies; He’s watching our hearts. When we gossip, complain, or compete, we dishonour the very presence we are trying to usher in. But when we choose to uplift, submit, and respect one another, we create a space where God is pleased to dwell.

Let’s not forget: unity is not uniformity. Each priest had a unique role but one shared mission. We don’t all play the same part, but we must all move in the same direction—with honour, submission, and mutual respect.

Let us carry His presence together—with respect, submission, and honour. For when we do, we prepare the way for the miraculous!

Prayer:

"Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the privilege of serving in Your house and carrying Your presence. Teach us to walk in unity, honour, and humility. Forgive us for moments where we have gossiped, complained, or dishonoured one another. Help us to serve not just with our gifts, but with pure hearts. May our worship be acceptable not only for its sound, but for its spirit. Bind us together in love, that Your glory might dwell among us.
In Jesus' name, Amen."

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Am I truly honouring my fellow team members in the way I speak about them, both in front of them and behind their backs?

  2. Do I submit to leadership with a willing heart, or do I secretly resist or criticize?

  3. What is one practical way I can uplift or encourage someone on the team this week?

  4. When I feel offended, do I process it with prayer and grace, or do I let it grow into complaint or gossip?
