Presence, Power, Purpose

PART 3

"Purpose"

Ministry for the Purpose of God

“And you will be My witnesses...” (Acts 1:8)

Straight Country Road

When Jesus spoke about the presence of the Holy Spirit and the power from on high, He did not stop there. He also revealed the reason God gives us these gifts.

Presence leads to Power, and Power leads to Purpose.

The presence of God is not an end in itself. The power of God is not an end in itself either. Both are given so that the purposes of God may be fulfilled on the earth. Jesus said: “And you will be My witnesses.”

It is significant that Jesus did not say, “You will do witnessing,” but rather, “You will be My witnesses.” This means that witnessing is not merely something we do; it is who we are. We are not witnesses only when we stand on a stage. We are not witnesses only when we hold a microphone.

We are not witnesses only when we create content or run a livestream. Our entire lives are meant to bear witness to Jesus Christ.

For Worship, Arts & Media teams, this is especially important. People may not remember what songs we played, what camera we used, or what graphics we created. But they will remember whether they encountered God.

Therefore, the goal of our ministry is not to impress people, but to create space for people to encounter Jesus.

  • We do not sing so people will remember us.

  • We do not create so people will admire our talents.

  • We do not produce services so people will applaud our excellence.

  • We do not use technology to showcase our capabilities.

  • We do everything so that people may see Jesus more clearly.

John the Baptist declared: “He must become greater; I must become less.” (John 3:30) This should be the heart of every WAM minister. When people leave a worship service, our goal is not for them to say:

"The worship team was amazing."

"The production was incredible."

"The media team did a great job."

Rather, we want them to say:

"Today I encountered God."

"God spoke to me."

"I experienced His presence."

"I am closer to Jesus than before."

That is the true measure of ministry success.Acts 1:8 also reminds us that God's purpose extends far beyond the walls of the church.

Jesus spoke of: “Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

This reveals the heart of God—to bring the Gospel to every person, every nation, every language, and every culture.

Today, God has entrusted Worship, Arts & Media ministries with powerful tools to fulfill that mission.

Songs can cross borders.

Videos can reach people around the world. Livestreams can bring the Gospel directly into homes. Digital media can reach people who may never step into a church building. Many people may never attend a worship service in person. Yet they may encounter Jesus through a single video.

Through one worship song. Through one testimony. Through one social media post. Or through one livestream.

This is why our ministry is not merely about producing a Sunday service. It is part of the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.

Every time we serve—whether on stage, behind a camera, at a sound console, in front of a computer screen, or in an editing room—we are participating in God's work of drawing people to Himself.

  • We are not merely musicians.

  • We are not merely designers.

  • We are not merely photographers, videographers, or technicians.

  • We are co-workers with God in the advancement of His Kingdom.

Paul writes: “For we are co-workers in God's service.” (1 Corinthians 3:9)

What a tremendous privilege that God chooses to use our gifts, creativity, skills, and technology to proclaim His glory to the world.

Therefore, our ministry is not simply about fulfilling a role. It is not merely about running a program. It is not merely about producing quality content. It is about partnering with God to accomplish His purpose on the earth.

Prayer points:

Heavenly Father, we pray that Jesus would remain at the center of everything we do. May every song we sing, every media piece we create, and every creative expression we offer point people to Christ and bring glory to Your name. Use our Worship, Arts & Media teams to reach people both inside and outside the church, drawing them into a life-changing encounter with You. Help each team member to understand Your calling and purpose for their life, and grant us hearts that serve as faithful co-workers with You. Keep us from seeking human recognition, and instead help us serve with humility, faithfulness, and a sincere desire to see Your Kingdom advanced and Your name exalted.

Reflection questions:

  1. Is Jesus still the center of my ministry?

  2. Am I using my gifts to build God's Kingdom or my own reputation?

  3. Is my work helping people draw closer to God?

  4. Do I see my role as merely a ministry task, or as part of Christ's Great Commission?

The ultimate goal of Worship, Arts & Media is not to create impressive experiences, but to lead people into an encounter with the living Jesus Christ and participate in God's purpose of reaching the world with the Gospel.
