Humble Hearts in the wam Ministry
"For by the grace given me I say to every one of you:
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith
God has distributed to each of you."
Romans 12:3

In creative ministries like worship, music, production, and media, we often develop skills that are visible to others. Whether it’s singing on stage, playing an instrument, mixing sound, operating cameras, designing visuals, or producing media, our gifts can easily become a place where pride quietly grows. C.S. Lewis once said, “Pride is the mother of all sins.” Pride was the reason Lucifer fell from heaven. Pride was also what led Adam and Eve to believe they knew better than God. Pride convinces us that our abilities, creativity, and achievements are ours alone.
But Paul reminds us in Romans 12:3 that everything we have is given by God’s grace.
-
Our musical ability.
-
Our creativity.
-
Our technical skills.
-
Our opportunities to serve.
-
Even the breath we use to sing or speak.
None of these originate from ourselves. They are gifts entrusted to us by God. This perspective changes how we see our role in the Worship Arts & Media team. We are not performers trying to impress people. We are servants stewarding God-given gifts for His glory and for the strengthening of the church. Humility does not mean thinking less of our gifts; it means recognizing the true source of them. When we remember that our gifts come from God, pride is replaced with gratitude. Instead of saying, "Look at what I can do" we begin to say, "Thank you, Lord, for allowing me to serve."
In creative ministry, humility also shapes how we work together as a team. No role is more important than another. The person adjusting the lights, the one mixing audio, the musician, the vocalist, the media operator, the content creator—all are equally vital in creating an environment where people can encounter God. Humility allows us to celebrate others' gifts, learn from one another, and serve with unity.
Scripture reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. When we remain humble, we position ourselves to receive more of God’s grace, wisdom, and anointing in our ministry. So as we serve through worship and media, may our heart posture always be: "Lord, these gifts are yours. Use them however you want." Our goal is never applause from people but glory for God!
PRAYER
"Lord, we thank You for every gift and ability You have given us. Everything we have comes from Your grace. Protect our hearts from pride, especially as we grow in skill and opportunity to serve. Help us remember that we are simply stewards of the gifts You have placed in our hands. Teach us to serve with humility, unity, and gratitude. May our music, creativity, technology, and media never draw attention to ourselves but always point people to You. Use our gifts to strengthen the church and create spaces where people can encounter Your presence. Keep our hearts humble, teachable, and dependent on You. All the glory belongs to You alone. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!"
